Dieses Lied wird dort gerne in besonders schweren Stunden intoniert, wie uns “USA erklärt” erklärt. Und wirklich, dieser Bitte um göttliche Führung können wir uns nur mit einem tiefen Seufzer anschließen:
Nicht nur Bushs Parteifreunde leugnen ungeniert den Klimawandel (Dino-Blähungen im US-Kongress), besonders perfide geht Iain Murray vom Competitive Enterprise Institute mit seinem “Global Warming FAQ”: (What Every Citizen Needs to Know About Global Warming) vor:
“There is no ’scientific consensus’ that global warming will cause damaging climate change.”
“Global warming is happening and man is responsible for at least some of it. Yet this does not mean that global warming will cause enough damage to the Earth and humanity to require drastic cuts in energy use…”
Wer sich jetzt immernoch über die Amerikaner wundert, den wird nach dem folgenden Image-Werbespot für Kohlendioxid - natürlich auch vom “Competitive Enterprise Institute” - vermutlich gar nichts mehr wundern. Wie heißt es in “America the beautiful” so schön:
“America! America! God shed his grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea.”
